Jose Pagan

–

Yonkers, New York

Jose Domingo Pagan was born on November 24, 1974, at Nasrieth Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Nereida Guzman and Jose Pagan. Affectionately known as “Joey” by his family and “Hopz” by his friends, Jose was a vibrant and unforgettable presence to all who knew him.

He spent his early years between Pennsylvania and Newark, New Jersey, where he was raised alongside his grandmother, Gregoria Guzman, and surrounded by a large family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He later moved to Peekskill, New York, with his father, where he spent most of his childhood. Jose enjoyed playing basketball, was a proud fan of the Los Angeles Lakers, and loved spending time with his friends. He also had a passion for dancing and cooking, bringing joy, laughter, and good food to those around him.

On December 29, 1992, Jose welcomed his only child, Renita Nicole Pagan, who remained the pride and joy of his life.

Throughout his life, Jose faced challenges with untreated mental health and addiction. Despite these struggles, he was known for his kind heart, sense of humor, and charismatic personality. He was truly the life of the party and was loved everywhere he went—from Newark to Peekskill.

In his later years, Jose resided in Yonkers, New York, where he was working toward rebuilding his life. He was especially proud of his daughter, Renita, a Licensed Master Social Worker, and often spoke of her accomplishments with great pride.

Jose passed away on April 20, 2026, at his home in Yonkers.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Pagan, and his grandmother, Gregoria Guzman.

He is survived by his mother, Nereida Miranda; his stepfather, Lucas Miranda; his daughter, Renita Pagan; his sister, Dianna Laboy; his niece, Daysha Cartagena; and his nephews, Wilson Cartagena and Tristian Cartagena.

Jose will be remembered for his warmth, laughter, and the love he shared so freely. His spirit will live on in all who knew and loved him.
