He passed away peacefully at home on June 14, 2025. James was a cherished soul whose presence brought warmth, love, and light to all who knew him.
James moved from Summerville, SC to Tarrytown, NY, and soon after settled in Ossining, NY, where he attended school and graduated from Ossining High School in 1968. He went on to study Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, showing a strong commitment to mastering his chosen trade.
James married Mary Lou Hill, and together they were blessed with two wonderful sons, James Alexander and Kenyon Aqui. James maintained a strong bond with the Hill family, cherishing the connection and love they continued to share. As a father, James took great pride in his children, always striving to be a source of guidance, love, and support. He cherished the
moments spent with them, whether they were sharing in their
accomplishments or offering a listening ear during life's challenges. His unwavering commitment to fatherhood shaped their lives in ways that will always be remembered and deeply cherished.
James was a valued and respected member of Sheet Metal Workers' Local 38 for 30 years, where he served as a commercial journeyman. While working for Local 38 James explored the spirit of entrepreneurship where he created a taxi and limousine company, called Longtail. After retiring, James found fulfillment in a new chapter, working for the different school systems, first as
a bus operator, and later as a bus monitor. He took great pride in his work, forming meaningful connections with both students and fellow staff, and continued to bring his strong work ethic and camaraderie to every role he embraced.
James had a deep love for music-it was the rhythm of his soul. His passion lives on in the melodies he loved. James took pride in his appearance and also stepped out with his best foot forward. James loved family dinners and cookouts, and he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren who brought endless pride and happiness to his life.
