Ernestine D. Christmas Obituary (1932 - 2023)

We celebrate the life of Ernestine Dolores Christmas who was born on July 24, 1937, in Brooklyn NY. Ernestine was thesecond of six children of Ernest and Mazeline Harrison ofYonkers, NY. Ernestine transitioned to her heavenly home onAugust 4, 2023 surrounded by loved ones.Ernestine was a member of Strait Gate the Church atWestchester and one of the mothers of the Church. As a childand young adult, she was a member of A.M.E. Zion MethodistChurch in Yonkers, NY where she sang in the Junior choir,participated in the Young People's Group, attended Sunday school, andcontinued until she was old enough to teach.She was involved in many clubs and sports while attending Yonkers publicschools. She later studied Early Childhood Education at Briarcliff Collegewhich led to her lifetime passion of teaching and caring for the community'schildren.Ernestine was the Executive Director of The Church of Our Savior Day CareCenter in Yonkers for over 30 years. She touched the lives of the children inher program by ensuring all had daily nutrition and education to prepare themfor elementary school and their bright future.She was on the Board of Directors at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Yonkers,NY and always looked forward to the meetings and interaction with the Boardmembers. Ernestine was a very active member of her High School ClassReunion planning committee and looked forward to the monthly meetings withher classmates. She was also a member of the Westchester Black Women'sPolitical Caucus Greenburgh-White Plains.Ernestine leaves to cherish her memory of love, two sisters, Marion French ofBronx, NY and Denise Harrison of Yonkers, NY Two daughters, TerriChristmas-Garrant (Stanley) of Poughkeepsie, NY and Alison Christmas ofElmsford, NY; Son, Ellis Christmas of Elmsford, NY; six grandchildren, EllisJr., Stanley, Zachary, Bailey, Morgan and Riley. A host of cherished nieces,nephews, and friends.She was a beautiful social butterfly, she was a beacon of light, a loving mother,a loving sister, a loving aunt, a loving friend, and an exceptional woman.Beyond goodbye there is a beautiful place where her memory will live forever.A special thank you to Mom's Caregivers Inez, Rita and Gethsemanewho showed love and compassion for Mom each and every day, and toCalvary Home Hospice for your care and support of mom and the family.
