Donyal Nedrick Obituary (1961 - 2018)

Donyal Yvette (North) Nedrick, best known as "Neddy," was born on July 6, 1961 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Franklin E. North, Sr. and the late Jean Carol (North) Patrick. She was a graduate of Sonderling High School in Brentwood, New York. Donyal was employed by New York State Department of Corrections Sing Sing Correctional Facility. She entered the Department of Corrections and Community Services on July 2, 1984. After graduating from the Academy she began her career at Sing Sing, and on August 20, 2015 she retired after serving 31 years. Donyal supported basically all the events whether it be sports, the Olympics, BBQ's, Old Timers, Holiday parties and Retirement parties. When social media came into effect, Donyal informed co-workers and friends of all the many events and always shouted you out for your Birthday. Donyal became a resident of Ossining in the summer 1984. At that time, she did not anticipate that she would meet her extended family. The Lilley and Laidley family became her second home. When Donyal became Bryan Johnson's (pre-deceased) Godmother in 1985, it was one of her happiest days. She would spend summer nights on the front porch for hours enjoying the fresh air; you knew she was there by the scent of her perfume. She spent holidays with the family and she always bought the ice and beverages. Her last holiday was Thanksgiving and she was thankful for being able to celebrate with her second family. For Christmas she would always send out Christmas cards and a scratch off to her friends. Donyal was very family oriented. She loved kids and being around them. She was a unique individual and sassy with her own sense of style. She loved music and loved to call people "honey" or "hun." Donyal is survived by her four siblings, Franklin E. North, Jr. of Tampa, Florida, Francine A. North of Columbia, South Carolina, Darryl L. North of Buffalo, New York and Marsha K. (North) Poyner of Columbia, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Additionally she is survived by special cousins, Shelly Henery of Sandusky, Ohio and Giavonna Henery of Houston, Texas; and special sister, Sheila Lilley of Ossining, New York.
