David Purvis, Jr. Obituary (1960 - 2017)

David Purvis, Jr. was born on May 13, 1960, to parents David Purvis, Sr. & Susie Smith-Purvis. He was the youngest of four siblings; twin brothers, Kevin and Keith Purvis, and sister, Deborah Purvis-Drakeford. Although his parents migrated from the Carolinas, David and his siblings were true New Yorkers. They grew up in in Harlem, NY, at the Wagner Projects, better known as "2369". As a young boy, David's interests and hobbies included his love of music and DJ'ing the neighborhood parties (Nobody parties like Harlem parties!). He also enjoyed playing basketball with his friends. As an adult, David's passion for music continued...he loved old school Rap, classic R&B, and smooth Neo-soul...and he was a great dance partner! David was also an avid movie watcher, and he had a thing for high end gadgets and electronics. David received his primary education from the New York City public school system, where he graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. David went on to complete his undergraduate studies at Hunter College where he received his bachelor's degree. David was a fitness enthusiast, and he worked as a Personal Trainer for more than 30 years. The last place he worked was the renowned Peninsula Hotel of New York, where he leaves behind a host of co-workers, friends, and clients who will truly miss him! By all accounts, David was a kind, compassionate, and generous man! He was faithful and dependable to family and friends alike. David truly cared about the wellbeing of others. On March 5, 2017 David Purvis, Jr. answered God's call and transitioned from labor to rest. He leaves to cherish his memory, brothers, Kevin Purvis (Nicole) & Keith Purvis (Odetta), and sister, Deborah Drakeford (Clifford - deceased); nieces and nephews: Christine Drakeford, Jared Drakeford, Keith Anthony Purvis, Miracle Rose Marie Purvis, Brandon Turner, Crystal Clinton Morris.
