Charles W. Tate was born in Burlington, North Carolina on March 7, 1935 to the late Charles Tate and Annie Wiley. He peacefully transitioned into eternal rest after a brief illness on February 10, 2019 at White Plains Hospital, White Plains, NY.
He was educated through the school system in Burlington, North Carolina and later migrated to New York with the help of his brother Andrew and wife Madeline Tate. Chuck was employed at Grasslands Hospital, renamed Westchester Medical Center, where he worked for more than thirty years as a transporter until retirement. While working there, he met, courted and married the love of his life who would become his wife for fifty four years, Jessie Mae Sims. To that union two beautiful children were born, Deborah Ann Tate Green and Charles Tate. He continued his diligent work ethic after retirement by working at Saint Agnes Hospital until they closed.
Charles joined and was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church in 1962 under the Pastorate of Rev. Thomas H. Slater. Bro. Tate remained a faithful and dedicated member of Bethel until his health failed him. He progressively became more involved by joining the Male Chorus, Senior Usher Board, and became a missionary along with his wife.
He leaves to mourn his passing in celebration of life a loving and devoted wife, Jessie Mae Tate; two children, Deborah Ann Green (Brian) and Charles Tate; 1 adopted son, Rev. Anthony S. Montague; 3 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by both parents; ten sisters, Margie Tate, Bertha Tate, Berniece Tate, Arlisha Tate Lambeth Wilson, Edith Tate Shoffner Paris, Alberta Tate Swinson, Cardia Tate Sutton, Pauline Tate Cook Thompson, Doris Carrie Mae Tate Morrow and Dorothy Lee Tate Matthews; four brothers, Andrew Tate, Haywood Tate (Died Shortly After Birth), Thurman Tate and Baley Tate (Died Shortly After Birth); and 1 grandson.
Chuck was loved by all and will be missed by many.
