Bartee Washington Scott, Jr. Obituary (1936 - 2022)

Bartee Washington Scott, Jr., a lifelong Ossining resident, transitioned from earth to reward on Sunday, March 20, 2022. Bartee, known as "Junie" to family and friends, was born on September 15, 1936, to the late Bartee W. Scott, Sr., and Josephine Craig Scot He was raised and educated in the Ossining school system and was a proud graduate of Ossining High School. He received an associate degree in accounting from the New York Business School. On April 21, 1962, Junie married the love of his life, Mary Ruth Swinton. Two children were born to this union - Cynthia Ann and Gregory Craig. At a young age Junie gave his life to Christ and was a lifelong member of the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he was a member of the Youth Choir and the Men's Ministry. He occasionally helped prepare breakfast for youth events in which his granddaughter, Kaila, participated. Junie was a familiar sight around Ossining due, in part, to his 36 years as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service. Junie knew everyone, and everyone knew Junie. Upon his retirement from the post office, he was employed in the Maryknoll mailroom. Junie was also a partner in the Soulful 3 Bar on Central Avenue, a part of Ossining history. A lover of music, Junie could often be found at home listening to 50's doo-wop, 60-70's R&B, and jazz greats such as Duke Ellington and Sarah Vaughn. He also enjoyed dancing to Marvin Gaye's, "Got to Give it Up", Next's "Too Close" or "Freeway of Love" by Aretha Franklin with his granddaughter. Junie was devoted to his family, and leaves to mourn his daughter, Cynthia (Michael); son Gregory; his "road dog", granddaughter Kaila Barnes Shannon (Gerald); three sisters, Peggy Brown, Alice Scott-Lenard, and Beulah Cofer; three brothers, Jeffrey Bates (Alicia), Warren Bates, and Harold Jackson; his godchildren, Michelle Cofer and Robert Suggs; sister-in-law Dorothy Swinton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ruth "MaeRuth" Scott; two sisters, Ruby Suggs and Ann Swinton; 6 brothers-in-law, Charlie Suggs, Chris Swinton, Frank Cofer, Harold Swinton, Sam Swinton, and Bill Brown; and one sister-in-law, Cille Jackson.
