Asquith H. Philogene Obituary (1928 - 2021)

Asquith Henry Philogene, Phil as he was known, 92 of Bridgeport CT, passed away on Saturday February 20, 2021 at Ludlowe Center for Health & Rehabilitation, Fairfield CT. He was born July 14, 1928 (Bastille Day) in Colihaut, Dominica West Indies to the late Therese Philogene and the late Wezeen Philogene. He was the youngest of seven children. He came to the United States in the winter of 1950. He graduated from Bridgeport University with a degree in Chemistry. He was accepted to attend medical school at Atlanta University, now part of Clark Atlanta University, but lack of funding prevented him from achieving that dream. He became the first black person to work for the City of Rye, NY. He also taught math at Westchester Community College. He loved to watch boxing and court TV shows, play his numbers and talk to family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all of his siblings and his wife Dorothy. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Neno Philogene of New Haven, CT; his daughters, Darlene Philogene (Geoffrey McKenszie) of Mount Vernon, NY, Danielle Philogene of White Plains, NY and Billie Roye of Waldorf Maryland. He also leaves behind two granddaughters, Sasha Cotto of Mount Vernon, NY, Chaquel Roye of Alexandria, VA and a grandson, Leighton Roye Jr (Tempest Roye) of Jacksonville, FL; a great granddaughter, Eryn Webb of Mount Vernon, NY, a great grandson, Maxwell Roye of Jacksonville, FL; and a host of stepchildren, nieces, nephews and friends from all around the world.
